Children are the light in the darkness

[ Because I love you ]

I know teachers are not supposed to have favourites. I try not to show favouritism in my class, but it's hard for me not to have favourites.

Especially if you have those children who know how to make you smile, and you know they mean it.

That's one of the main reason why I want to stay as a preschool teacher. Generally, preschool children are not the monsters or irritants alot of people think they are. Those irritants are from an older age group.

But then again, maybe I am lucky. Cos' I somehow seemed to get children that do not have much behavioural or discipline problems. But I don't know how long this will last, cos' I heard I've got this horrible new kid coming in that is a spoilt brat.

Anyway, I have sidetracked. Today, class was enjoyable. And of cos', it is thanks to one of my favourite boy, Seth.

Seth is a cute chubby bubbly boy who speaks with a philippino accent. He is very active, and loves to speak his mind, which sometimes doesn't make any sense. I dote on him alot, cos' he is just like a baby at times, yet I scold him quite often too cos' he can forget himself and misbehave by talking loudly and shoving other children (but he seemed better behaved since this year).

He is also very affectionate, perhaps only to me( I don't know, other teachers who find him cute wants to hug him but he refused complained that to me).

Cos' he is cute and loves to speak his mind, I love to disturb him.

So today, as usual, I did.

Seth loves to hug me suddenly and I always return his hug. But today, I decided to tease him a little.

(In the classroom, during lesson time)

Seth: Miss Kho! (tried to hug me)
Me: Seth, I don't want your hug today. (by now the other children were paying attention to our conversation)
Seth: Why, Miss Kho? (Eyes grew wide, looking teary)
Me: Because I don't know why you want to hug me.
Seth: No, Miss Kho. Kiss is very very dirty. Got saliva, then can make me sick. (He loves to talk out of point)
Me: No, Seth. I ask you why you want to hug me(rephrased my question, seeing how he talks out of point).
Seth: (creeps very close to me, both hands cupping around my right ear, and whispers like he is sharing a secret that he doesn't want other children to hear) Because I love you Miss Kho.

AWW!!!! Was how I felt, but my first reaction was laughing out so loudly that other children were laughing with me. Christy, one of my favourite girls in the class who is very mature, remarked, "Seth is so cute."

I laughed because that was unexpected, especially when he leaned so close and cupped my right ear with his hands, I was wondering he must have some secret to tell me.

Somehow, it reminds me to the cheesy water chestnut advertisement too.

Anyway, Seth laughed with me. He has no idea what's so funny. Poor boy. But of course I told him I love him too.

Even though they had no idea what Seth said that made me laugh, but they all felt he was cute. Somehow.

P/S: He's so attached to me probably also cos' he doesn't have his mother by his side. But he's got a loving and doting dad.
